Soleil and Flarence are immortal Genies who can bend the fundamental forces of the universe through willpower alone. For centuries, they have considered themselves the most formidable beings in the world, but some newcomers just might give them a run for their money.
Magic has always been limited to living things. Throughout his life, Soleil has never come across an object with supernatural capabilities. Now, a human has somehow constructed guns with the ability to fire spells. Genies are normally resistant to offensive magic, but Soleil knows from experience that the enchanted revolvers harm all creatures equally.
Resurrection is one of the few limitations to a Genie’s abilities. Not even magic should be able to bring a person back from death. Recently, though, Flarence saw a corpse not only rise but also fight. Endowed with incredible speed and strength, the revived man seeks revenge on his murderers.
To make matters worse, Darren (the third member of the Genie “family”) is still missing. He's been lying low, biding his time, but hasn’t forgotten about Officer Tymbir, and has every intention of settling their score.
Darren, the revived corpse, and the man with the magic guns have a list of people to kill, and are eager to spill blood. With the help of Mohinaux and Claire, Soleil and Flarence rush to locate them, uncover the sources of their powers, and find a way to stop them.

Hugh has also written a blog article for CreateWriteNow named Bacteria and Fungus in Food
For a long time I didn’t realize how much food I was throwing away. When I was living with my parents my dad taught me how to make beer. We never made a habit of it, but we did it enough for me to understand the
basics. Years later, when I was living on my own, I got into it again. It’s a great way to pass the time on slow weekends because it takes a while to thoroughly boil the ingredients. Once everything is ready it’s transferred into a large container and sits for a while. One effect that occurs after about a week is a buildup of sludge on the bottom of the container that needs to be filtered out before bottling. After filtering, I used to pour the sludge down the drain. Finding a use for it never occurred to me. I was talking about it with someone once and they asked what the sludge was and how it formed. I told them “over time all the fatty acids, oils, and pieces of grains and yeast glob together and sink to the bottom.” “Really?” they said, “that sounds like the
perfect sourdough starter.” “Oh,” I said, “what’s a sourdough starter?” For some reason the thought of making my own bread never crossed my mind. After that comment I looked into it and the next time I made beer I saved the sludge. It was highly viscous so I added a lot of flour to give it the consistency of pictures I’d seen of sourdough starters. It expanded a lot faster than I expected and I had to keep finding more containers because it kept overflowing.
Getting it under control was an ordeal, but on the plus side I made tons of bread out of it. Getting weeks of sourdough from one beer filtration was nice but I was more intrigues after finding out the starter has a very long shelf life. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised since beer never goes bad. (And I’m confident using the word never. My dad was cleaning his basement once and found some bottles we made more than ten years ago. My mom was worried they’d make us sick, but we were fine, and it was the most malty beer I’ve ever had. It actually tasted just like Mild Duds). The extended lifetime caught my attention and I started looking into other ways of preservation aided by fungus or bacteria. I never liked buying milk because it goes bad too quickly, but heating it up and turning it to yogurt extends the expiration date. I tried giving Kombucha a shot, but after a few happy accidents it turned into more of a kefir, which in my opinion is just as good and just gets better with age. When fruits start to rot I’ve been using them to make vinegar instead of throwing them away
or composting them. Lately I’ve gotten into salting cabbage and saving the brine to preserve other vegetables. It seems like with a little patience and experimentation, the hassle of expired food can be bypassed completely.
