According to the highest authority of Wikipedia, Writer’s Block is a phenomenon involving temporary loss of ability to begin or continue writing, usually due to lack of inspiration or creativity.
Neurologist Alice Weaver Flaherty says these mood disorders reflect environmentally caused or spontaneous changes in the brain's frontal lobe. These processes, and their implications for treatment, are described in her book The Midnight Disease, The Drive to Write, Writer’s Block, and The Creative Brain:

3 Writer's Block as State of Mind |
4 Writer's Block as Brain State |

I’m picking up her book from my library today. I’m sure it will start to clear up some inner mysteries about what’s going on in that beautiful brain of ours….
Writer's blocks are part of a natural ebb and flow of the creative process. A temporary flare-up, much my herpes chin breakout. But there have been cases where writer's block has lasted for years or decades. The most notable example of this in modern literary history was Henry Roth's writer's block which persisted for sixty years and was caused by a combination of depression, political problems, and an unwillingness to confront past problems. If only he had known about Journaling for the Health of It he could have confronted and concluded the energies of his depression and past problems…just like I’m doing in My Journal.
