Now, as I was saying before I so rudely interrupted myself: I am loving Food Journaling. I am increasing my awareness of the opportunities I have inside me to get healthier and happier. And the great news is that Mic, my inner critic, is with me every step of the way. Oh yes, he was trying to insinuate himself into my food journaling in his repetitive, manipulative, slimy way but I laid down the law: we would talk and set course ground rules before our next meal. We did and we’re cool.
So, this is how I keep my food journal:
1. I have a brief sit down with myself, watch my breathing and ask my body in my Journal what do I (AKA Team Mari ;)) feel I need to eat? Write it down and then go to the kitchen and get it, fix it and bring it to my dining room table! This is a huge behavior change eating a meal at my dining room table rather than standing picking at this and that, or running out the door with leftovers in tow.
2. I record everything I put in my mouth (including all supplements--I’m only taking a refrigerated probiotic so that list is way shorter than it used to be), the amount and the brand of food if it comes out of a bag or container, what I was feeling, what time it was and how long I spent eating. I find that taking the time and chewing my food has resulted in a less distended tummy. Less pain, more spiritual gain.
3. When I‘m done writing, I read over what I wrote. Sometimes out loud. Then I write about what went well and what I’m going to do more of at my next meal sitting at my dining room table, just eating and enjoying nourishing my body!
