When a Personal Journal Gets Too...Well...Personal

Dan Hill wrote this song about relationships, like the relationship we are working on building with ourselves with the help of our journal therapist--the toughest and most rewarding relationship of our life.  (Do you see any of yourself in that song?)

Sometimes we spend more journaling time offline rather than onsite. Call it writer’s block, page fright, procrastination, or whatever; it’s a part of our consciousness inviting us to go deeper and deeper and deeper.

For your consideration, some suggestions for getting back on track with your personal journal from a surveyI took of fellow journal writers trying to make the best of a bad situation:

  • Go to the movies and see ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ or ‘Up’
  • Get a massage, a reiki or a reflexology session or a neurofeedback session.
  • Find a spot in nature and set a spell.
  • Meet with a numerologist, psychic counselor or astrologer.
  • Meditate with your eyes open.
  • Talk to someone in your journal. Dialogue with a person who inspires you.  I found my discussions with my 11th grade U.S. History teacher Mr. Emory very enlightening. Learned a lot about myself in my chat with President Obama.  Might try a discussion with Big Ben, quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers next.
  • Do anything you’ve never done before!!! -- Like take your Inner Critic out to lunch.
