Journaling Therapy Tips #168 - The Secret Garden

Written by Mari L. McCarthy | Thu, Aug 16, 2012 @ 06:05 PM

Start a Garden Journal. Not the earth and water kind, but one that grows words and wonder.

I am a farm girl, still in my heart. I instinctively think in 'seasons'. Many things make sense to me from an 'organic' perspective. The city girl in me needs to be reminded to stop and smell the roses and watch the grass grow. These are short entries and long entries, depending on the time available, but I love to sit and close my eyes, waiting patiently for the first organic thing that pops into my head. Then, I write about it from a 'garden' perspective. For instance, "8/11/2012 I am truly grateful for the trees that I see in front of me through my kitchen window. They inspire me - they whisper peace, they shout strength & move freely. I love the earthly connection I have with trees. Attraction; they woo me. The Spanish moss looks like randomness caught on the branches as it passes through. Sunlight dances on the leaves, there is shelter in the dark shadows. As I gaze upon them, I feel them blow me a 'kiss' - "Thanks for stopping by" I hear in my mind. Needles, leaves and bark all wave from across the pond."
